Hi folks,
Sorry to plough the forum full of questions when i am yet to find a boat. But is there any guide as to the different mast types (i guess versus crew weight) for the 505. I am aware that Cumulus etc. are generally stiff but what the hell is a Holt antares?

Many thanks

It's good to see the forum being used alot. I don't think there is a guide. As I know it the Holt is very Stiff but was very popular a few years ago and some people still rate it as a good section. Then there's the super spars M2 Which is also A stiff mast but has been a very successful mast for all crew weights. The cumulus is a good all rounder this mast is not as stiff as the others.

As I remember it, but please correct me if I'm wrong, the Holt Antares was a very soft mast more suited to lighter crew weights, I had one on my first 5 0, 8230 parker 25, in a real blow you could see the top section flexing away, it suited us as my crew was less than 11 stone soaking wet

Yes the Antares is stiff. I used to use one with a pretty big crew.

The antares is like n M2 side to side, and like a cumulus for and aft. gives a slightly odd characteristc to the bend profile (basically it only really flexes fore and aft).

Remember sailing with one with christian about 10 yrs ago....great mast - dynamite in breeze.
