All, This is the third year that we have run training weekends at Draycote. They are designed for boats and crews of all abilities/speed and have been extremely enjoyable and rewarding for all who have attended. Ex National Champion Charlie Walters has agreed to be coach for the first session. Below is the first draft for the schedule. If anyone would like anything adding then please ask, we will see what we can do. Cost will be small, usually day sailing at Draycote, plus anything extra for equipment such as rib hire and Draycote are very obliging allowing us to leave our boats their free of charge. Draycote is a lovely water and is very easy to get to. Well worth the visit. Below is what Charlie has in mind: Dependant on weather conditions, a Charlie Draycote training weekend would look something like this. Saturday more structured than Sunday. SATURDAY 11am Brief Noon on the water for warm-up laps of the triangular course - getting boats in the groove. 12:30 - 2 short races. Between races each crew changes something on the boat. 1:30 - Speed runs. Boats streamed, for 1 hour of intensive straight line work. 3pm - 2 longer races - sausage/triangle 4pm (ish) - ashore 4:30 - 6pm Debrief over a beer + actions for people to improve on day 2. SUNDAY Compete in the morning club race... Boats stay afloat for 3 sprint races during lunch break Ashore and de-rig Debrief - away by about 3:30/4pm. Can crews please post on the forum if they intend to attend as we need an idea on numbers.

guess the key word there is "ex....!!"

key thing is to be able to see (video) and compare/think about rigs; boat speed and basic tactics. clearly bigger tactics inland are a localised, and so a bit of a waste of time.

Of course it all depends on the conditions.

I can make the second w/e but am driver-less, so am happy to video on Sat or jump in and out of boats. What ever is easiest.

These training sessions are great. Would recomend them to all 505' ers no matter what age of boat.

I will be there for both sessions but may only be on the Saturdays.

Regards ideal sessions.
Could we do some spiny work.
Crew swapping.
Get the rib to follow each boat in turn and advise set up for best sail shape.
And yes get the video out again!

Attendance numbers so far.

At present I think we have:
Burton's 4 boats
CW and DC
Neil from Rugley
The Shorties
Norman and Jim on the second weekend.
I can think of another 4 or 5 at least that should be attending. Come on everyone, please make some commitment so that we can make arrangements.

Cheer s

believe that Steve Hunt is available for weekend 2. He may well be able to help out/crew as appropriate.

Cheers

Just been talking to everyone at the Fastsail event.

Two more boats are planning to attend.

Toby/Apes and Simon/Harry and so that makes 10 at least.

Cheers

Yup can confirm that I will be there, but not going to guarantee the Ape. I'll have someone at the front though don't worry.

One question, what are the options for accomodation up there? I've only ever done just the Saturday before....

Fear not, if all goes to plan peg leg (Jim) and I will coach/ensure you go slower and slower on the second w/e.

All,

Lets get a better understanding of numbers.

I think we have
4 from Burton
1 from Draycote
Shorties
CW and DC
Toby
Harry and Simon
Neil from Rugley
Rob N

Now that's 11. I'm sure there are more. Please post.

Cheers

Unfortunately my boat will be at PB for some repair work. However, I can crew for someone over the first weekend if they are happy to turn up with a boat. I can also do the Saturday or Sunday (or both) so if someone is stuck for a crew let me know.

Norman.

Are we rigging in the normal area through gate and just past the wind surfers?

Yep.
I might be able to do take some video on sat, but certainly on the second sat.. But we need someone with a level 2 powerboat certficate in order for us to be allowed to use a rib.
I won't be sailing either w/e but can always hop in to show someone the wrong way to do something..

IMPORTANT
Charlie can't come.
I'm only making a flying visit.
CAN YOU PLEASE PAY DRAYCOTE BEFORE GOING ON THE WATER.
If not too windy I'll be videoing 1pm onwards but not for too long.
Jim has suggested some exercises/drills we can run through.
See you tomorrow,
Give me a call if any concerns

Hi everyone,

Charlie cannot make it, but we have chatted and Tim Bird and I shall sort a plan over a coffee tonight.

See you at Draycote. Try and rig by 12noon.

Cheers
